Unfortunately it appears that this album (and the other one, down there) is out of print and is unavailable through Amazon MP3. I recommend Soulseek. (I’m the guy with 44,400 songs that you can’t download, unless I download from you.)
Burning Brides are one of those bands that Last.FM’s recommendations really nailed for me, mostly based on how much I listen to Local H. They play grungy brainless hard rock with pop influences and it mostly just floors me. On one hand, they make me want to rock out really hard during the parts where they almost descend into metal, but on the other, their lyrics are so brainless sometimes, the riffs are so simple, and their hooks are so infectious that it almost makes the whole thing seem sort of cheesy.
Their charm, really, comes from how unabashed they are about the music they make. They’re having fun, making music that entertains them, music that’s easy and fun to play, and maybe they can kind of support themselves on their meager sales. It’s brainless rock, but it’s fun to listen to, and it’s certainly more honest than a lot of the shit out there that gets played on KROQ these days.
I saw them play live at Safari Sam’s when bass player Melanie Coats was about 8 month pregnant with singer/guitarist Demetri Coats’ little hell spawn, and they rocked really hard. It seemed like an important gig, the last pre-childbirth, but hardly anyone was there. I bought this awesome brown shirt with a Burning Brides logo on it in the same general design of the classic Aerosmith logo.
They played all of their good songs, which is definitely a skill that a good band develops over time. They didn’t weigh their set down with slow melodramatic songs: they were there to wail on their guitars and have a good time. I was entertained and you can’t ask for much more than that.
From You is the song that got me into them. It’s easy to sing along to because the lyrics feel familiar already, so it wormed it’s way into my subconscious very easily and got me hooked.
I should really do a TripleTake! and post King Of The Demimonde as well, but I’m not going to. Do yourself a favor and seek it out yourself and listen to it, especially if you want more of a metal sound.
Have a good lazy Sunday.
*Hey! I just noticed, thanks to those Amazon mouse over things, that you can get both of these albums for probably $4 each on Amazon since they are priced at $0.01. What a steal! You’d be a fool not to buy them!
